Over the past 10 years, with the joint efforts of all parties, the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" from China's initiative to international practice, from concept to action, from vision to reality, has not only brought tangible benefits to relevant countries, but also made positive contributions to promoting the healthy development of economic globalization, solving global development problems and improving the global governance system.

In terms of highways,

What contributions have we made?

Highway projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises

The Maputo Bridge, built by a Chinese enterprise, is located in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique in Africa and has been in safe operation for nearly 5 years. Maputo Bridge has not only become a local landmark, but also a shining card of the "the Belt and Road" construction in Africa.

Maputo Bay is a natural barrier in the local area, which has long caused a serious imbalance in economic and social development between the north and south sides of the bay. The construction of a cross sea bridge has become a long-standing wish of the Mozambican people. In November 2018, this dream was finally realized, and the Maputo Bridge, built by a Chinese enterprise, was completed and put into use.

The Maputo Bridge has a total length of approximately 3 kilometers, spanning the Maputo Bay, and then extending southward along the main highway to the South African border port, with a total length of 187 kilometers. The construction of the Maputo Bridge connects the old urban area of Maputo with the planned new Katempe district. In the future, Katempe district will focus on developing industrial, logistics, tourism, commercial, and residential areas. Through its operation in recent years, the Maputo Bridge has brought tangible benefits to the local people.

"the Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit Forum was held

The Montenegro North South Expressway project starts from the coastal city of Bar in the south and ends at the border city of Bolyare between Montenegro and Serbia in the north, with a total length of approximately 180 kilometers. Among them, the priority section is about 41 kilometers long and was constructed by China Road and Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. It was officially opened to traffic in July 2022. There are a total of 16 tunnels, 20 bridges, and 3 interchanges in the priority section, with a bridge tunnel ratio of about 60%, making it the most technically and constructively challenging section of the North South Expressway project. After completion, this road will be integrated into the international road transportation network, connecting multiple countries in Central Europe, and is of great significance to Montenegro.

In addition to providing safe roads for vehicles, the priority section of the north-south expressway also brings direct and indirect economic benefits to Montenegro. During the 12 months of operation, approximately 2.2 million vehicles passed through the priority section of the north-south expressway, and the highway toll paid was approximately 9 million euros.

At the recent reception of the 10th anniversary of the "the Belt and Road" initiative of the Chinese Embassy in Montenegro, former President Vujanovic of Montenegro spoke highly of the contribution made by the priority section of the north-south expressway to improving road safety in Montenegro. He said, "In the past year since its opening, there have been no fatal traffic accidents on the highway. We have obtained a life-saving highway.

Chilean Highway 5

On February 15, 2023, China Railway Construction International Group completed the handover with the original franchisee of the Chilean Highway 5 section from Chilean Chilean Chilean Chilean to Koipui, and officially launched the project operation.

The Chilean Highway 5 project officially started construction on March 13, 2021. It is a part of the Pan American Highway in Chile, the main land transportation artery in Chile, and an important transportation artery in Chile. It is locally known as the "Golden Passage" and is the longest highway in Chile. It spans approximately 3363.97 kilometers from the northern border of Peru to the southernmost open city of Quelon in Chile, spanning 14 out of 16 regions divided by Chile.

Serbian Capital Ring Expressway

On June 28, 2023, the opening ceremony of the Serbian capital Belgrade Ring Expressway section constructed by a Chinese enterprise was held. The Belgrade Ring Expressway is divided into three sections, of which Section B, constructed by Chinese enterprises, has a total length of 20.34 kilometers and includes three sections. The total length of the road section opened to traffic this time is 9.74 kilometers, which is the last section of the section constructed by Chinese enterprises, marking the complete completion and use of the part constructed by Chinese enterprises.

This expressway was first built in the early 1990s and was later suspended due to some objective reasons. The completion of this project will shift some vehicles from the overloaded urban basic road network to the surrounding roads, which will help shorten travel time, reduce traffic accidents, and reduce harmful gas and noise pollution in the urban area.
