On September 2, 2023, the opening ceremony of the first phase of the elevated expressway project at Dhaka Airport in Bangladesh was held. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated in his speech that the opening of the Dhaka Airport Elevated Expressway (Phase I) is a new milestone in Bangladesh's transportation development history and will play an important role in reducing traffic congestion.

The Dhaka Airport Elevated Expressway Project is a joint venture between China Power Construction Group Corporation's Hydroelectric Eighth Bureau and Shandong Road and Bridge Company, and is one of the most prioritized infrastructure projects in Bangladesh. The total length of the main line of the project is 19.73 kilometers, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The main line of the open road section is 11.297 kilometers long, and the entire section adopts an elevated design.

After the completion of the highway, it will greatly alleviate the current situation of traffic congestion in the capital city of Dhaka, and the driving time can be reduced from two hours to 20 minutes. During the construction period, the project created tens of thousands of job opportunities for the local area, with over 80% of the purchased equipment, materials, and subcontracting accounted for by the local market, contributing to the development of the local social economy.
